Dr. Lluís Corominas

Research Scientist

Dr. Lluís Corominas focuses his research on the development of tools and methods to achieve sustainable management of urban water systems. His expertise is on monitoring, modeling and control of urban wastewater systems and on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of water treatment infrastructure. BsC in environmental sciences (UdG, 2000), MsC in environmental sciences (UdG, 2002), postgraduate on environmental engineering (UdG, 2006) and PhD on environmental sciences (2006) with postdoctoral experience at Université Laval of Québec (Canada) from 2007 until 2010 working on the European project NEPTUNE (New Sustainable Concepts and Processes for Optimization and Upgrading Municipal Wastewater and Sludge Treatment) from the 6th Framework Programme. His research activities have resulted in 28 publications in international peer-reviewed journals (H-index 9), 46 national and international conference proceedings, the writing of 3 book chapters, the invention of a patent, the participation in 18 national and international research projects and the supervision of 1 PhD thesis. Currently, he is principal investigator (PI) responsible for the ICRA contribution in the demonstration project R3-Water (Demonstration of innovative solutions for Reuse of water, Recovery of valuables and Resource efficiency in urban wastewater treatment) from the call WATER-INNO-DEMO of the 7th EU Framework Programme, is also PI of the project EcoMaWat (Ecosystem-based management of urban wastewater systems) funded by the Programme Marie Curie within the 7th EU Framework Programme, participates in the project demEAUmed (Demonstrating integrated innovative technologies for an optimal and safe closed water cycle in Mediterranean tourist facilities) from the call WATER-INNO-DEMO of the 7th EU Framework Programme, chairs the IWA (International Water Association) Working Group for Life Cycle Assessment of Water and Wastewater Treatment (LCA-Water WG) and is editor of the journal Water Practice & Technology (IWA publishing).
